OUR MISSION
Peacemakers for Albinism and Community is dedicated to reducing stigma
and discrimination against and improving the health, education,
and livelihoods of people with albinism in Tanzania.
People with albinism have been feared, rejected and harmed in Tanzania for thousands of years. In 2006 a new threat arose, the superstition that albino body parts could be used by witch doctors to make you get rich quickly. Since then 76 people have been killed and another 80 have been attacked, most losing a limb. The attacks and murders are now extending throughout the surrounding countries in East and Central Africa. Additionally, skin cancer kills 80% of Tanzanians with albinism before the age of 30.
